Luxury, the Tanzanian way

A luxury safari is not only about thread counts and plunge pools — although there are plenty of both. It is about space, privacy and time: an intimate camp where you may be one of only a handful of guests, a guide who is yours alone, a flight that turns a long drive into a scenic hour above the plains, and the freedom to shape every day around what moves you.

Tanzania has some of the finest safari accommodation in Africa. Imagine a tented suite with a bathtub overlooking the Mara River at Singita Mara River Tented Camp, a treehouse in a mahogany forest at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, a fireplace and a horse ride across a coffee estate at The Manor at Ngorongoro, or copper baths and wood-burning stoves at One Nature Nyaruswiga.

We design every luxury safari from scratch around you: your dates, the season, the experiences you dream of and the pace you enjoy. We can add private vehicles throughout, hot-air balloon flights over the Serengeti, walking safaris, photographic hides, private dinners in the bush, and a final week in a villa with its own pool on Zanzibar. Behind the scenes, our team in Moshi looks after every flight, transfer and detail.

Planning

Designing a luxury safari

01

Choosing the camps

The finest camps are small, which means they fill quickly — especially from July to October. We match camps to the season: in migration season, the northern Serengeti around the Mara River; in calving season, the south. Between parks, a night at Gran Meliá Arusha or The Manor adds comfort and a change of pace.

02

Flying or driving?

Driving the northern circuit is a beautiful journey, and a private vehicle gives you total flexibility. Flying to the Serengeti saves a long day in each direction and adds spectacular views. Many luxury safaris combine both: driving through Tarangire and the Ngorongoro highlands, then flying to and from the Serengeti.

03

Experiences beyond game drives

A sunrise balloon flight over the Serengeti, a walking safari in Tarangire, stargazing with a resident astronomer at Serengeti Explorer, horse riding at The Manor or a private dinner on your treehouse deck at Lake Manyara — these are the moments guests remember most.

04

Bush & beach

After the early starts of safari, a few days on Zanzibar are the perfect contrast. Choose a private-pool villa at Baraza on the south-east coast or the adults-only calm of Riu Palace Zanzibar in Nungwi.

In our guests’ words

When to go

When to travel

June to October is peak season, with excellent game viewing and the Mara River crossings from around July. January to March brings the calving season in the south. Because the best camps are small, we recommend booking six to twelve months ahead for peak dates.

The green season from April to May is quieter and some camps close, but those that remain open offer a peaceful, lush experience.

Questions

Luxury safari FAQs

Still have a question? Our team in Moshi answers within 24 hours.

Ask on WhatsApp
What makes a safari luxury?

Small, exclusive camps, private guides and vehicles, fly-in transfers and special experiences — combined with flawless planning.

How far ahead should I book a luxury safari?

Six to twelve months for July to October and the festive season. The smallest camps can fill even earlier.

Can I have a private vehicle throughout?

Yes. All our safaris are private, and on fly-in safaris we can arrange private vehicles at each camp.

Are luxury safaris suitable for families?

Many are. Some camps have minimum ages, while others, such as The Manor, have family cottages. We check every detail for you.

Can you arrange a honeymoon or special occasion?

Yes — see our honeymoon safaris. We let lodges know so they can add special touches.
